View to kill
Saturday, August 30th, 2008I think it would be a truly horrible thing to live in any of these houses.
I fear if i did, I would be rendered totally useless.
I wouldn’t leave the house, but sit and just stare day and night.
I’d have nothing further in my life to aspire to, I’d become empty…
Eh, I’d still be willing to give it a try anyway!!
Pressed metal. Its a thing
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008I have been shyly flirting with pressed metal for a few years, seeing it here and there, every know and then.
Recently my flirtations have blossomed and I think I am ready to say the big L word!
I LOVE LOVE Pressed meta! -especially when it is painted.
I think it is such a fabulous way to add interest to a room and give reference to the architecture without detracting from everything else in the space.
Look how fabulous it is in these pictures! – Clearly NYC design firm Diamond Baratta feels the same way i do!

Paper cuts and Mintie wrappers.
Monday, August 25th, 2008I remember the days of being a kid and spending endless hours, mostly on school bus trips, trying to make a the worlds longest chain out of a Mintie lolly wrapper! (I think it was the teachers ploy to keep us kiddies quiet and busy!) Hmm…I wonder if they still can do that in schools, the world being all super ‘PC’ & all?!!
So here is the very tenuous link!! (said it before: MY Blog, MY way!!)
Taking paper cuts to a WHOLE new level, Danish artist Peter Callesen is a very clever fella with his Stanley knife! I think his work is very appealing (yeah, pun intended!!)
Check it out:

I think this is SO clever & brilliant!! Im in awe!
Sundy cookups and the dream kitchen…
Sunday, August 24th, 2008I’m in a rare mood (for me!) for a little cooking today and being a Sunday, thought I might do a little ‘Sundy’ roast for the fella and I!
I couldn’t help but be inspired to cook up a storm today after seeing this brilliant stop motion clip when visiting Apartment Therapy!
(I will use REAL food though!)

My own kitchen is no dream kitchen! I have a tiny work space and its just not encouraging space to be a culinary creative in!
So I have begun to ponder what my ‘Dream kitchen’ would contain…
These uber cool ovens are of course by uber cool Marc Newson for Smeg. I know nothing more than they are coloured AND by Marc Newson. But that’s enough for me!!!
I also love the old school classic Aga stove – great colour choices for me there too!
I would HAVE to go the red Aga if any:
I’d have to have a collection of fabulous cookware:
I would love a fabulous stone or marble counter top
And I LOVE a fabulous glass splash back.
A MUST for the Dream kitchen is it needs to be the seamless inside outside kinda deal.
I don’t consider myself to have the ‘cooking gene’ that so many do. So I wonder if I DID manage to get my Dream Kitchen, would I even use it to the potential it would deserve?
Pondering one of life’s big questions.
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008Here at Designalogue Blog, we ponder life’s BIG questions. You know the important stuff.
Today’s post is no exception. Today we will explore bedside tables.
“Huh?” I hear you say. “THATS a Big question?!” to which I retort, “Have you thought about the endless choices available? ALL the options, Have you?!”
Its a BIG impact of what seems to be a simple decision.
I have spent a lot of time of late thinking about bedside tables. A LOT of time (-um, Yeah. I’m a deep thinker!)
But I’m going to be looking for some new bedside tables for the fella and I soon. So I’m thinking about what actually I want in a bedside table: Decorative? Functional? Spacious? Compact?
Its a BIG decision you know! I mean, it will effect a lot of future decisions: Such as what kind of bedside lamp – big, little, desky. Do I have room for a book, water and a pencil? you see, there IS a lot to consider!!
So I’m asking myself:
Do I want to go with this kind of table – a little Rococo type number? I COULD easily re paint to my colour whims!
Or do I want a compact little decorative number like this pretty table?
Do I want to go dark & moody with uber storage like this one?:
I’m pretty sure this one isn’t going to suit my lifestyle, but should I discount it so easily JUST because its a wee one?
Do I want a little colour in my table?
Do I need to be thinking about a bit of sassy bedside storage?

Perhaps I should go the sensible kinda non committal, could go either way kinda number?

Or the simple space keeper?

Or, do I rethink the entire bed head and go for built in storage simplicity?

Or, COULD be a good excuse to use some gorgeous fabrics – I DO have quite the stash hidden away!

Or, this type of ‘sensible’ table?

Or, what about an interesting twist! and OVER height! it certainly would fit a book and a glass of water!

Or, maybe I want to go antique?

And ALL this and I haven’t even started thinking about drawers or cupboards!!!
So you see, this really IS a big question!
Stay tuned, (but don’t hold your breath!) I will let you know which way I go!

Designer Crush – this one could be love!
Monday, August 18th, 2008Marc Newson is a rather clever fella! I remember the first time I heard his name, Madonna was lounging upon a cool metal loungey chair that looked oddly enticing in a ‘who cares about comfort’ type way in her film clip ‘Rain’.
Apparently an Australian Industrial designer had made this chair – his name, Marc Newson. My Design Crush began…
Since his Madonna days, he has been a clever and rather busy fella! Designing bags for Samsonite, a concept car for Ford, lots of stuff for Alessi, first class lounges at the Melbourne Airport (that I am unlikely to ever see!) and the odd cool bar and restaurant in NYC, a hotel in Madrid, Boutiques in Berlin, a lighting gig for the Sydney opera house at the Olympic Games in 2000, And, ofcourse I cant forget to mention a jet AND space plane. Variety IS the spice of life, as it is said!!
He is Uber cool. My Designer Crush could be love…
I’ve been Winked!
Sunday, August 17th, 2008Thank you to the gorgeous blog Desire to Inspire for winking (Weekend Link) me!
As a newbie to the blogosphere it is very exciting to share my thoughts on the design world and even more exciting when others read those thoughts of mine!
Thanks again Kim & Midcenturyjo!!

This one goes out to the computer nerds…
Wednesday, August 13th, 2008We stare for hours on end at pixels on the computer and TV, now add the sofa!
“Pixel Sofa” by Royal College of Art graduate (UK) Cristian Zuzunaga
I dig it!
Must be said: Written with love for the computer nerds amongst us – Especially my ‘fella’! After all, -the rest of us would be lost without your guiding nerd ways!
