Designer Crush Part 2

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Yet another ‘designer crush’ I have, is on American designer Frank Roop.

His use of colour and texture is inspiring and makes me want to BE in the room!

I can so see myself lounging back on the day bed, cuppa tea in one hand and having a Ra-Ra chat with whom ever wants to join me!! …Ah that’s the life!!

Designer Crush’s

I think a good way to start his blog is to share a few of my ‘Designer Crush’s’!

Unoriginal to design blog land, I am a huge fan of American designer Kelly Wearstler! I love the drama she creates in her work. I find her use of colour so emotive and powerful.

I first ‘found’ her years ago when I was in a book shop flipping through some design books and I just couldn’t put it down! Happily on that day the ‘fella’ & I decided to each buy one book! I chose her book “modern glamour” and ‘tall man’ bought “1000 films you should see in your life”. Quite a contrast!!! Not surprisingly, I have devoured my book & I know he has barely looked at his!

(Due to my ‘novice’ skills here so far, I have no Kelly Wearstler pics to share – so check out the KWID website to see her gorgeousness!)

Another ‘designer crush’ I have is on Kathryn Ireland. I was lucky enough to hear her speak at a trade show here in Melbourne a few weeks ago. She is full of energy and I could have listened to her talk for hours! She is a shameless name dropper (by her own admission!) and I loved every second of it!!!

As well as doing fabulous decorating projects, Kathryn also designs her own fabric range, beautiful patterns printed onto hemp base cloths. I am yet to get my hands on her fabrics but will devour when I do!! In the meantime the signed copy I have her book “Classic Country” will have to do it for me! (who is the name dropper now!!)

The image below is off her own kitchen in her house in LA. I LOVE the colours & un-preciousness of the interior. Its a kitchen where real lfe happens!! its not shown here, but this room also has an original ‘Damien Hirst’ piece. A modern peice that doesnt look out of place!

Yet another blog is born…

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Hello to you and welcome to designalogue blog!

About a year ago I stumbled across the world of blogs and was so excited to have suddenly found that the Internet was suddenly relevant to me! Before this world had opened up to me, I thought the best I could hope for was reading the newspaper on-line or perhaps a bit of Internet banking! I cant tell you how I excited I was by this discovery! As a complete magazine addict I could basically now have a new magazine delivered to my screen daily -and pretty much without all the pages of blah they have in between the good bits! I still have the mag addiction, yet the fix isn’t as desperate as once was!

And now the time has come for me to give it ago! Whats the harm?! Why not?

From the get go, I think it is only fair to tell let you know that I can get quite lazy with my spelling and spell check can just do so much!! Also punctuation is NOT my strong suit! I have a habit of using – instead of, and. – and so do it often! I write how I speak, and that’s how it will be! Otherwise I won’t get anything down, and this blog will be very short lived! So if you decide to stick with me as a read now & then, you will just have to deal with it!

So, I suppose here I go!!

So to start, here is a picture I love of LA designer Peter Dunhams‘ own home as featured in Domino. I love the collection of interesting pieces and mismatched goodies that would all have their own story of how they came to be! A room with character! Gorgeous!
