House & Garden top 50

Friday, October 4th, 2013

I went to a rather lovely party this week. It was the launch for Australian House & Garden magazines annual top 50 rooms.

The party was held at an event space called Twotonmax in North Melbourne. Its a cool venue that is a blank space that can be frocked up to suit any occasion.

Im not sure who did the styling for this do, but it looked very special with flower garlands & fairy lights suspended overhead which set a great party mood!

This picture was posted on instagram by House & Garden prior to guests arriving. So, before it got messed up!

Surprise surprise – I took a blurry pic of the flower pretties (my title of worst photographer ever isn’t going anywhere quickly!)  But if you squint & tilt your head a little, you can see that it is pretty!

Two large screens projected the images of the rooms that feature in this issue.

& looksee – that is my kitchen project up on the big screen! woohoo! I made the cut for this years top 50 rooms!

And here tis in the glossy pages of the magazine!

My hot date for the evenings celebrations was the lovely Martina Gemmola who was the photographer of my projects picture.

We glam’d ourselves up for the eve & joined the party for a bit of ra ra! Despite me not being in top ra ra form, it was a great night & lovely to meet some of the H&G Sydney team & some designers from interstate who has made the trip down for the do!

This is the second time my work has been included in the top 50, my first being in 2011 for my dining room. See that here .

The November issue hits the shelves on Monday & its a good one!

Its a great honour to be featured, so thank you House & Garden magazine!

Still some finishing details for this project to come -I have custom designed a rug for the living room (can not wait to see it!) and some cool furniture for the entrance too. Its been an exciting project to be involved with as its such a unique space.

Kudos to the architect on this project Robert Miles who designed really great bones for this space. I’d like to think our interior designs & finish choices have enhanced his original vision!

Dalai Lama in Melbourne

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

So something a bit exciting happened in my world last week –  a project that I have been working on for a few months came to fruition.  I was lucky enough to have been invited, as well as my good friend & fellow designer Jessica Nixon to design & set the Melbourne stage for His Holiness the Dalai Lama!

Naturally I said yes – instantly to this invitation!

Jess & I thought it was a great opportunity to showcase some local Australian design so we worked collaboratively with Jardan Furniture who made all of the beautiful furniture for the event & Philip Stokes Glass who made the gorgeous sculptural vases for the flowers.

And this is how it turned out:

Apparently the rug was gifted to His Holiness and travels with him. I love the colours & it was naturally the starting point for the stage design.

A friend commented that she wanted to turn the rug around. It is protocol for the lotus design to face His Holiness. And now you know!

Jess & I arranged the flowers ourselves – we thought it was fitting to include some lotus flowers in the arrangement!

& here His Holiness is!

(Until I get better photographs of His Holiness sitting on the furniture – my Iphone pictures of the onstage screen are the best I can do!)

& of course I had to include this selfie of Jess & I with our official accreditation badges for the event!

It was quite a thrill to create a client file in my computer named Dalai Lama! It has certainly has been a career highlight & I am very proud of  what our collaboration achieved! I’ll be smiling about this one for a while yet!

Psst – All photos are just picture I took myself on my Iphone.  Hopefully I will have some through soon that the official photographer took on the day

Bold happenings

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

Well hello once again! or, welcome if this is your first time in this particular blogs hood!

Thought I would share a couple of  pictures of a recent project that I had photographed.  Its a music room for a young family & as you can see they aren’t afraid of living with colour!

Look-see at the handblown glass pendant light we had made for the project:

So there you have it! It was such a pleasure to work on this project! My clients (the loveliest people you could meet) had an idea of what they wanted for the space which was bold & colourful.  I dont think you can say its not either of those!

Thank you once again to the fabulous Martina Gemmola for beautiful photos!

See you back here soon! I have some INCREDIBLE news to share soon of a project I have been working on – its the kind of project that i could not possibly say NO to & is the kinda project that is & forever will be a career highlight & totally surreal. When I tell you more you will understand the surreal-ness!

Until next time!

So this happened

Friday, March 8th, 2013

I was rather chuffed to hear the news this week that I had a won a award for 2 of my projects in the inaugural Your Future Home Green Interiors Awards!

I won 2 of the categories!

One for my bamboo bathroom project:

& the second for my bamboo kitchen project

The major sponsor & one of the judges was Jen Bishop of Interiors Addict had some particularly lovely words to say about my projects:

“Camilla Molders so impressed us that she won both the kitchen and bathroom categories. These rooms in her Elwood project made great use of bamboo, a renewable and durable material. It also looks fantastic and gives the kitchen and bathroom a much warmer feel than you’d usually expect. I loved the handmade Australian tiles and the environmentally friendly paint choices too.”

Well, isnt that a bit nice!

Happy New Year!

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013

Wowsers, its 2013!  Happy new year peoples!

I had a pretty quiet NYE, I’d celebrated my birthday the day before in a very liquidy way, & as I turned 37 – not 18, I dont bounce back quite like I used to! So my NYE was spent on my sofa flicking between Graham Norton, The Rocky Horror show & a Rolling Stones doco on the TV. Truth be told – was quite happy!

2012 was a great big year for me both personally & professionally. It was the year  that I got my first magazine cover, worked on an international project , travelled to Vietnam, worked on some really exciting & challenging projects & hilariously was invited to do a screen test as a design expert for a TV show (psst I was terrible! – a robot! Bloody hilarious experience though!) met some amazing & inspiring people, took a pottery course & made my own set of dinner plates, took a basket weaving course and topping it off in December I moved to a new house & office. A big year!

Ive enjoyed a few days over this break just doing a bit of nothing. Ive slept, taken long walks, Ive sorted out the new house – decorated it, got bored with how that looked so re arranged & redecorated again! But now I ‘m nearly ready to get stuck into it all again!

Right out of the gate I have some great projects to get stuck into, as well as some to finish off . Im excited & raring to go!

By the way, Im often posting pictures of project happenings over on my facebook page – so if you wanna, go like it – to keep in the loop! go here

like this – a snippet of a very colourful project nearing completion!

And thats that! See you back here soon!

Warehouse happenings

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

And so here I am!

I thought it was about time to share some happenings that have been keeping me busy of late & I’ve been busy!

One of my current projects is a pretty cool warehouse conversion. I  cant wait to show you more of that, but for now we will make do with some pictures taken mostly on my phone  for now.

(Psst – I think its long been established that I am a terrible photographer- look past the blurs people!)

I was so excited when this wallpaper was installed on site. Look closely.

This is in the master bedroom! Oh yes!

This is a snippet of the powder room upstairs. I think the tap is super sexy. but so is the basin. And the tiles!

This is the ensuite down stairs.  As you can clearly tell by this picture – its not finished, nor was it styled!! But I couldn’t not share! The stone bath, mosaic tiles & custom coloured tap ware – its a pretty special place to be!

Upstairs its all happening too!

We’ve got some pressed metal action in the ceiling & one the facing which makes me happy to look at! And the up-stand (which I was so excited about seeing out of my head that I had a ‘moment’ when it was installed!)  is a huge piece of reclaimed timber that was previously used as part of the near by Princess Pier. Its so chunky & delicious. Yes, I am saying that a giant chunky piece of wood is delicious!  Actually when I was first discussing this with my brilliant cabinet maker, he made a note that ‘it had to be the dream piece of wood’! He was taking the piss ofcourse – but as long as I got my point across Im happy!! & he delivered!

This just gives another view of the up-stand. I loves it hard.

In the living room we are waiting on some new furniture still, but this will give you a small idea of whats going on over there. And yep, that pole there is what you are thinking!

Its a house with a lot of character & been so excellent to work on! Still a fair bit to happen before its all done – but i just couldnt wait to share some of what has been chocking up my brain space of late!

I will also be sharing soon some other projects – very polar oposite to this one that have been keeping me busy!
