House & Garden top 50

Friday, October 4th, 2013

I went to a rather lovely party this week. It was the launch for Australian House & Garden magazines annual top 50 rooms.

The party was held at an event space called Twotonmax in North Melbourne. Its a cool venue that is a blank space that can be frocked up to suit any occasion.

Im not sure who did the styling for this do, but it looked very special with flower garlands & fairy lights suspended overhead which set a great party mood!

This picture was posted on instagram by House & Garden prior to guests arriving. So, before it got messed up!

Surprise surprise – I took a blurry pic of the flower pretties (my title of worst photographer ever isn’t going anywhere quickly!)  But if you squint & tilt your head a little, you can see that it is pretty!

Two large screens projected the images of the rooms that feature in this issue.

& looksee – that is my kitchen project up on the big screen! woohoo! I made the cut for this years top 50 rooms!

And here tis in the glossy pages of the magazine!

My hot date for the evenings celebrations was the lovely Martina Gemmola who was the photographer of my projects picture.

We glam’d ourselves up for the eve & joined the party for a bit of ra ra! Despite me not being in top ra ra form, it was a great night & lovely to meet some of the H&G Sydney team & some designers from interstate who has made the trip down for the do!

This is the second time my work has been included in the top 50, my first being in 2011 for my dining room. See that here .

The November issue hits the shelves on Monday & its a good one!

Its a great honour to be featured, so thank you House & Garden magazine!

So this happened

I was rather chuffed to hear the news this week that I had a won a award for 2 of my projects in the inaugural Your Future Home Green Interiors Awards!

I won 2 of the categories!

One for my bamboo bathroom project:

& the second for my bamboo kitchen project

The major sponsor & one of the judges was Jen Bishop of Interiors Addict had some particularly lovely words to say about my projects:

“Camilla Molders so impressed us that she won both the kitchen and bathroom categories. These rooms in her Elwood project made great use of bamboo, a renewable and durable material. It also looks fantastic and gives the kitchen and bathroom a much warmer feel than you’d usually expect. I loved the handmade Australian tiles and the environmentally friendly paint choices too.”

Well, isnt that a bit nice!

House & Garden Bathroom Lookbook

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Say WHAT?!

Thats right!

That IS my project on the COVER of the new House & Garden Bathroom lookbook! and then some more on the inside!

and in case you thought I was fibbing, thats my name just there. SEE!!

Photography by Armelle Habib who did an amazing job!

Look see here if you would like to see some more of that project – before & afters.

A lovely person over on my facebook page (ahem… go like me, um it!!) commented that she was glad she didnt have to do the layout of the tiles! It was a bit fiddly & different than a usual tile layout, so I thought I would share some of the pictures I took while working it out!

Originally the plan was to place these tiles in an organised random pattern. I admit, there was some procrastination on my part when it came to working out this organised chaos! I’m sure a computer program would’ve been simpler, but I am a bit old school and like to draw things out, so I made a life sized template on my living room floor & started to play! (cant accuse me of not being hands on!!)

Starting to get a feel for the layout… this picture shows half most of layout as random, and starting to play with graduating colour stripe layout.

I feel hard in love with the graduated stripe. It meant we had to order a few more tiles & delay the install a week while they were hand made! But I think it was well worth waiting on.

See, it HAD to be striped.

I had the easy part! Bruce the tiler had a very difficult job but did it beautifully! These tiles are hard enough to keep straight just placed on the floor. I dont want to think about hard it would’ve been adding gravity to the mix!

Anyway, its not quite mid day, but the champagne is cooling ready to celebrate my first ever magazine cover! CHEERS!

Aw thanks Jo!

What a nice surprise to come across in my rather back logged RSS feed!

The super lovely Jo (who is in my opinion the blog god) of Desire to Inspire gave me a very lovely shout out for my House & Garden top 50 rooms feature on her Desire to Inspire! Thanks Jo!

I was very lucky to meet Jo earlier in the year when we were both invited to Sydney courtesy of Electrolux to have a very fine dinner at Testusyas. I loved her instantly! We giggled like teenagers & drank alot of wine. A. LOT!  Was a very fun evening!

Some pictures of the delicious food we ate are over on my CMD facebook page -here

& also, the on line gallery of the House & Garden top 50 rooms is here.

Ok. I think I’ve plugged my feature enough now….even I’M bored with it now!!!!

I knew that I was in the running to be a part of the feature as a photographer – well actually one of the best Australian photographers Derek Swalwell came to photograph my dining room! But I didnt want to count my chickens until I saw it with my own two eyes!

Well, now I have.

Features: Best Kitchens & Pure Green Living magazine

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Hello again blogosphere & a belated happy new year to you all!

February already. mental!

So, a rather lovely present arrived in my mail box today: an issue of  Best kitchens & Bathrooms.

And while flipping through the mag and looking at the oodles of snazzy kitchens & bathrooms I was delighted to come upon this:

and this:

Of course I knew it was going to be included, but it’s still  quite a thrill to see your work featured!

Meanwhile on the other side of the globe, a new issue of Pure Green Living Magazine is out who have also featured my bamboo kitchen project.  Check it out here and stay a while – its a good read!

Thank you to the lovely Celine for thinking of my project to be included in her fabulous mag!

Woohoo,  if this keep up Im going to get a ‘reputation’!!!

Just as a side note, I’m  sending safe thoughts to the people in North Queensland who are about to get the full force of a category 5 hurricane.  I cant comprehend the force -or size of it.

Surely 2011 has  seen enough natural disasters already.

Hand over the keys please.

In the current issue of Australian shelter mag Inside Out, there is photographic proof of what I have long suspected is true. The Truman show is real, and yes, I am the star of it.

Can you pick it up where you are in the world?!!! Do you get reception?

Anyway, the photographic proof of which I speak is a house that has long been in MY head: the location – Byron Bay Hinterland (soooo beautiful there), the of view of rolling hills I desire to stare out at, just the whole sensibility of the joint being a well thought out sustainable build and I even dig the frisky red rabbit keeping an eye on things!

If it turns out the Truman/Camilla show isn’t a happening (ah, doubt that!), then the architect and current* home owner  Sharon Fraser and I are kindred spirits cause I love it so.

The bunny is on the lookout for me!

Are sunken lounges making a come back?

Yeah, those are views I could look at.

Not such a bad scene to wake up to

Now this, is very cool indeed.

If you are wanting the TV to be the focus of the room its just like magic-now you see it… but suddenly there is more to life and you don’t want the tele to be the focus of all – so whoosh and kaboom and now you don’t!

If that doesn’t quite explain to your liking, then try this instead: Using a mechanical rope and pulley system, the painting moves up or down to cover the TV screen or not. The concept is way impressive anyway – but then in this case its a painting of fish – well, that just rocks my world people!

This rocks my world

Obviously for those who know me once I move in there will be many many more cushions (Yes, this yet another admission of ‘interior’ addictions I have)  undoubtedly  more colour and general stuff -you know a nick-nak or two!!! But I am confident it will still do it all justice!

And so how about a round of applause for my first scan job here at Designalogue!!!

Oh thank you, thank you! Now if I can only work out how to capture an image in a site using Flash……. (you people seem to do so, but I no can!)

Photographs by Richard Powers

*current – consider this marching orders! I’m moving in – oh but don’t freak out or anything i will be nice about it all!!

Im not fickle, but…

Friday, September 19th, 2008

No Really – I’m not the fickle type!

But if this ‘new look’ of design diva is anything to go by, then I officially DE-design crush Ms Kelly Wearstler.

Mauve and grey (yeah, its close enough to be!) is a way too 1980′s for my design sensibilities! I’m all for colour, but NOT that combination!

I was a child of the 80′s, and now as a grown-up, I’m in the ‘biz’ of making peoples houses look awesome – which in some cases means DE mauve and greying the joint!  Why ruin ALL that good work?

No no NO ! Ruffled suede ankle boots are enough to contend with! Please people – hear me & say NO!

oh yeah – I reserve the right to change my mind at ANY time!!!

Psst: I DO like the painting though!

All images via “if the lamp shade fits” – a blogette whose tag names alone have me a gigglin!
